Things left unsaid
He was a good provider Food, clothing, and shelter No nonsense work, inside and out Does he love me? I have my doubts He stated his love was shown By the things we own But I wanted his time Those things weren’t worth a dime Let’s laugh and talk and play Instead of work and sweat all day Is it too much to ask That we spend time without a task? I would give everything back Live life dressed in a flour sack If we could have been close My daddy’s little button nose. |
To 'secure liberty'
in lands far away from here he came home to this He fought for freedom and went home to a new war now where does he go Plane set down at home no cab would offer a lift they spat in his face He sat in a bar just to feel human again they would not serve him Shrapnel in his eyes 'agent orange' in his lungs trembling in his soul He jumped up and ran we were scared of his flashbacks he was scarred for life He found a new life his soul no longer trembles Jesus calmed his sea |
